Hachioji CampusTeikyo University Celebrates Outstanding Achievements in Education: Honoring Excellence and Dedication

On Monday, February 19, 2024, the 2023 Faculty of Education Award Ceremony was held at Teikyo University Hachioji Campus. Faculty of Education Award System began in 2016, and this year marks its 8th year. This year, Faculty of Education awards awards to individuals and organizations among students enrolled in Faculty of Education, who have achieved excellent results or received high praise in the fields of "academics, sports, culture, welfare, etc." Seven students received individual awards from Haruo Sato, dean of the department.

Yu Ishikawa (4th year, Faculty of Education) and Rina Yamazaki (4th year, Faculty of Education) aim to contribute to the local community in their hometown of Shizuoka Prefecture. They held a special exhibition called "Sakura Lala: I Decide the Day I Bloom" at the gallery space Cotori in Shizuoka Prefecture, and participated in the East Asian Cultural City Shizuoka 2023, where they gave a presentation at the Izu Shuzenji Library on the cultural comparison and appeal of Japanese, Chinese, and South Korea picture books as part of the "Connecting Children with Words" Project. Both events were attended by many local residents and were highly praised, which led to their award. The winners commented, "We were helped by many local people in holding the events. We want to continue to love our hometowns," and "Through our activities, we realized the importance of accepting and expressing ourselves as we are."

Hibiki Obuchi (4th year, Faculty of Education), Haruki Arai (4th year, Faculty of Education), and Yamato Namai (3rd year, Faculty of Education) participated as representatives of Japan in the Japan-Korea-China trilateral exchange program of the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre for International Education's "Joint Project for Promoting International Education and Global Citizenship Education in Northeast Asia through Storytelling," and were recognized for their remarkable achievements, including receiving high praise from Chinese and South Korea researchers. The award winners spoke of their determination, saying, "I'm happy to be able to end my university life on a high note," "I would like to report to my Chinese friends who I became close to through this activity that I received this wonderful award," and "I want to use this experience to become someone who can respond to and contribute to solving modern educational issues."

Natsumi Funabashi (4th year Faculty of Education), in her graduation research, wrote, ``Current situation and issues surrounding support for high school students who have lost their place at school - Focusing on the placement support project and practice at private full-time high schools.'' The paper was recognized for its high standard of writing, originality, and theoretical analysis. In addition, she was recognized for organizing a team as a campus tour leader for the student group "Campus Life Tutors," and for making a major contribution to university public relations as a cover model for the Teikyo University Guidebook 2024. Mr. Funabashi said, ``The moment my curiosity about education took shape as my graduation thesis, I felt a sense of accomplishment and was very happy.I started my activities as a Campus Life Tutor because I wanted to give something back to the university, and I have continued to do so. I am glad that our efforts have been recognized."
Emina Nishida (4th year Faculty of Education) plays an active role as a core member of the student organization Campus Life Tutor, and in addition to being involved in planning new plans and managing the day of the Open Campus, she also writes about the university's public relations magazine Flair. She served as the cover model for the 124th issue of the magazine, and was recognized for her great contribution to university management and university public relations. Looking back on his four years of activities, Mr. Nishida said, ``I had many opportunities to put the experience I gained through public relations activities to use in teaching practice, and I was able to grow during those four years.''
