To commemorate the release of "Teikyo Petit Gaufre", a collaborative product with Kobe Fugetsudo Co., Ltd., Mr. Takashi Akita from the company visited our school.

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Teikyo University's Itabashi Campus, to commemorate the release of "Teikyo Petit Gaufre," a collaborative product with Kobe Fukugetsudo Co., Ltd., Kobe Fukugetsudo Tokyo Branch Manager Takashi Akita visited the university and held a discussion with our university's Executive Director and Vice President Hiroko Okinaga.

The company is a long-established confectionery manufacturer founded in Kobe in 1897 (Meiji 30). Its signature product, gaufres, was launched in 1927 (Showa 2) after a customer brought in some baked goods from France towards the end of the Taisho era. Japanese and Western confectioners repeatedly experimented with new products to suit Japanese tastes. The large, fragrant, thin crusts are made using special wheat flour, and the manufacturing method is such that the hard baked parts around the periphery are cut off and only the soft parts in the middle are used, giving the crumbly texture to the crumbly crust. The smooth cream sandwiched between the crusts has been updated to keep the flavor the same while changing to shortening that is free of trans fatty acids, which are said to increase health risks if consumed in excess, in order to ensure that the product will be loved by many people for a long time.

Teikyo Petit Gaufres are cute, small, bite-sized gaufres that are easy to hold and eat while retaining the "crumbly" and melting sensation. Each individually wrapped gaufre comes in three flavors: vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate, and the flavor of each cream spreads the moment you open the bag. They have a long shelf life of 180 days from the date of manufacture. The packaging is also light and not bulky, making it suitable for gifts. The design is based on the key colors of our university, emotion blue and glossy white, and features the ivy school emblem, with the name of our university and the company written in the center, which is embossed with foil for a luxurious look.

During the discussion, Executive Director and Vice President Okenaga was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, and the two talked about childhood memories of the company's gaufres, which are based in Kobe. Akita said, "We hope that people of all ages will enjoy Teikyo Petit Gaufres, which has the same delicious taste and carefully designed packaging." Executive Director and Vice President Okenaga said, "We hope that people of all ages will enjoy Teikyo Petit Gaufres with a sense of nostalgia. We hope that people not only in Japan but also overseas will enjoy these beloved Japanese sweets, which incorporate traditional Japanese and Western confectionery making techniques."
