Itabashi CampusTeikyo University Strengthens Ties with Zambia: Advancing Healthcare and Education Through Global Collaboration

On Wednesday, February 5, 2025.? The Teikyo University-Africa Relations Commemorative Lecture "Zambia's Healthcare and Japan's Partnership" was held at the Clinical Auditorium on Teikyo University's Itabashi Campus, in collaboration with the Association of African Economic and Development Japan (AFRECO) .
Exchanges between our university and Zambia began with a lecture commemorating the 60th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Zambia, held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, with the participation of His Excellency Dr.Murimbika, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Zambia.

At this lecture, Copperbelt University Vice President Prof. Bernard Hang’ombe visited our school and gave a lecture entitled "Human Resource Development between Africa and Japan," in which he spoke about his experience working on cholera countermeasures in Zambia with Professor Hideki Yamamoto of our school's Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and others at JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), as well as his experience of obtaining a doctorate at a Japanese university. There was also a video message from the university's President Dr. Imasiku Nyambe.
From our university, Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga and Director Center for Global Education, Professor Masatomo Ogane spoke about the possibility of future exchanges between our university and Zambia. The event was a great success, with over 100 participants from embassies, educational institutions, and companies, including online participants.

Our university will conclude a memorandum understanding with Copperbelt University. The university is located in the Copperbelt Province, a copper-producing region of the Republic of Zambia. It was established as a science and engineering university in 1987, and became a comprehensive university with School of Medicine in 2011. The university aims to create a society that coexists with copper mines (sustainable mining), and is expected to promote research exchanges and human resource development in various fields, including sustainable development and health care.
Our university will continue to strive to develop friendly relations with Zambia and the rest of Africa.
