On Monday, February 10, 2025, the Teikyo University Ekiden (Road Relay) Club held an exchange class for all the students at Fuchu City Yazaki Elementary School. The exchange class is held every year as part of local exchange, and its purpose is to motivate the students of Yazaki Elementary School through interaction with the members of Ekiden (Road Relay) Club.
At Yazaki Elementary School, the children are practicing long distance running for the endurance meet, and the children are highly motivated. On the day, they ran around the school grounds with the club members, and at the end, a middle distance running contest was held between a representative child and a member of our school, creating an exciting atmosphere from start to finish. In addition, for the sixth graders only, as part of their career education, we held a lecture on the basics of the Hakone Ekiden, including stories based on the club members' real experiences, such as the attitude towards achieving goals. After that, the children asked many questions, such as "Is there any leg strength training you recommend?", "How do you refresh yourself?", "How much sleep do you get?", and about the mindset and how to use your body to run faster, and the club members answered each one carefully.
Teikyo University will continue to create opportunities for children to experience sports through local interactions.
