Further study sports science, Strengthen athlete support
“Medical,” which promotes the treatment and research of sports injuries and diseases related to athletes, “Athletic Trainers (AT)” and “Strength & Conditioning (S&C),” which work with athletes on-site to implement initiatives aimed at returning to competition and improving performance. , “Science” to measure and research along with biomechanics and exercise physiology, “Nutrition” to manage nutrition to prevent injury and illness according to the goals of sports characteristics, conditions, and physical development, and utilize specialized knowledge. We have set up six areas of “coach” to realize athlete support. We aim to contribute to the development of the sports world by realizing a total support service in cooperation with six fields.
Based on the idea that the evolution of sports sites is essential for the prevention and treatment of sports-related injuries and the improvement of athletes' competitiveness, Each division of conditioning (S&C), nutrition, and coaching is active.
In addition to strongly supporting athletes as a daily activity, we aim to contribute to the development of sports medicine science by encouraging research activities in order to support all athletes, not limited to our university.
We will provide sports medical science support to athletes belonging to the Teikyo University Group Athletic Club centered on the Teikyo University Intensive Training Club and top athletes outside the university, and contribute to the prevention and treatment of sports injuries and the improvement of performance.
We will contribute to the development of sports medicine science by disclosing the above activities and research results internally and externally through academic society activities and submission of academic papers.
This center was established in 2011 in order to further evolve the Department of Sport and Medical Science, which was established earlier, and to strengthen sports science research and athlete support.
Aiming for sports medicine scientific support inside and outside the university
In March 2008, Shoichi Okinaga, the former president, said, "We will provide sports medicine and sports science support centered on the Rugby Football Club and the Ekiden (Road Relay) Club, and contribute to the prevention and treatment of sports injuries and the improvement of performance, and in the future. With the idea of expanding its activities both inside and outside the university and establishing an organization that contributes to society as Teikyo University, the establishment of a sports medicine science center has begun to be considered.
Based on this idea, Masato Takao (at the time, Professor at the Department of Sport and Medical Science) and Masayuki Iwade (at the time, Associate Professor at the Department Department of Sport and Medical Science and Rugby Football Club coach) led the collaboration of doctors, athletic trainers, nutritionists, and researchers. We have begun regular medical checks for all members of designated athletic club activities, outpatient sports visits at Hachioji Campus clinic, emergency response in the event of a sports injury, and athletic rehabilitation aimed at returning to competition after a sports injury. In response to the positive results of these activities, this center was established on April 1, 2011, under the direction of President Yoshihito Okinaga, with the aim of supporting athletes in sports medicine and developing sports medicine. I did.
When the Center was first established, we started supporting the activities of three sports clubs: the Rugby Football Club, the Ekiden (Road Relay) Club, and the Cheerleading Club. With the opening of the Teikyo University Institute of Sports Science & Medicine building in October 2018, we are gradually providing services to sports athletes outside the university.

Introduction of research and activities
In addition to the knowledge in the field of sports medicine accumulated in a wide range of sports fields, we are working to improve the prevention and treatment of sports injuries by collecting information from field athletes on a daily basis and conducting research activities.
Main research and activities
screening We perform the following medical checks to prevent sports injuries. (1) Questionnaire to athletes (2) Medical examination by a doctor (3) Physiological function tests such as electrocardiogram, respiratory function, and ultrasound (4) X-ray examination of chest and limbs (5) Morphological measurement such as alignment (6) Physical check of tightness, range of motion, muscle strength, etc. In addition, we instruct athletes who are judged to require a secondary detailed examination to undergo an MRI examination or see a specialist, and respond individually according to the results.
Enlightenment to players Lectures are given to athletes so that they can acquire knowledge about injuries according to the competition characteristics of each club activity.
Regular blood test and body composition measurement, nutritional survey We conduct monthly blood tests, body composition measurements (InBody720), and nutrition surveys in order to understand nutritional status, anemia, fatigue, etc. Athletes found to have any abnormalities undergo individual interviews and nutritional guidance by registered dietitians, and receive Internal Medicine checks and treatment as necessary.
Training guidance for sports injury prevention and performance improvement
Athletic trainers (AT) and strength and conditioning (S&C) trainers provide training at our center and on the ground.
Diagnosis of athletes at our sports medicine clinic Our Sports Medicine Clinic is a clinic specializing in sports injury treatment. In addition to diagnostic imaging equipment such as ultrasound, X-rays, and MRI, we also have treatment equipment such as extracorporeal shock wave therapy equipment and hyperbaric oxygen treatment rooms. At our clinic, except for extracorporeal shock wave therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, we provide insurance medical treatment using health insurance.
Consultation at Teikyo University Hospital and referral to other specialists The principle of our center is to "provide medical care to athletes who have suffered sports injuries, not by titles, but by authorities with true clinical skills." We make referrals to trusted specialists, including the School of Medicine Hospital and Teikyo University Mizoguchi Hospital Orthopedic Surgery.
Medical support for top off-campus athletes We also provide medical support to top athletes outside the university, including soccer, baseball, and volleyball.
athletic rehabilitation Postoperative and conservative treatment in the event of injury or surgery is performed by athletic trainers under the direction of a doctor within our center. We also offer acupuncture treatments at our center.
Support at competitions and training camps Sports doctors accompany the tournament and training camp as needed to provide medical support.
Training in Japan and overseas Aiming to make this center equal to or higher than similar facilities in each country, we dispatch our staff to major facilities in Japan and overseas for training.
